Developing a small exhibition

Join Kitty Owens, Exhibitions Services Manager, to get some top tips about putting together a well presented and engaging exhibition. Topics will include developing your concept, exhibition planning documents, writing exhibition text, making labels and installing the items for display. It will be useful for anyone interested in presenting an exhibition. Kitty Owens delivers the Roving Curator Program, assisting small museums with exhibition development projects and has previously undertaken curatorial roles at the Koorie Heritage Trust, the University of Melbourne, and the Arts Centre. Kitty is the author of the 2016 AMaGA Victoria report on Local Government and Cultural Collections in Victoria.

General Meeting

The General Meeting offers the chance to network with colleagues and catch up on developments at AMaGA Victoria. The evening will begin with a tour of the Arts West Object Based Learning Labs (OBL) at the University of Melbourne with Steve Martin, Collections Manager, and Dr Olivia Meehan, the OBL Coordinator, for Arts Teaching Innovation in the Faculty of Arts. This will be followed by a short walk through the campus to the Baillieu Library for a welcome from Susie Shears, Cultural Collections Coordinator, followed by the formal General Meeting proceedings and refreshments.

Victorian Collections Cataloguing Workshop

This hands-on workshop provides an introduction to the principles of digitisation and collection management. Participants will learn how to catalogue collection items using the free, online and custom-built Victorian Collections cataloguing system.  

Victorian Collections workshops offer a relaxed and open environment and cater for participants with any degree of museum and computer literacy, as well as ongoing cataloguing support for community museums, and small and medium collections.
